The suspension for fast lap times
With the competition area Touratech Suspension provides ambitious amateur athletes with the material for fast lap times. Ready-to-install complete kits for fork and shock absorber bring the suspension of Superbikes to a level suitable for victory.
As a driver who has proven his driving skills not only in the IDM but also in numerous international races such as the Suzuka 8 Hours or the 24 Hours of Le Mans with top placings, Stefan Nebel as a test driver provides valuable input for the optimisation of the new suspension elements that enrich the Touratech Suspension range under the label 'Competition'.
"With the 'Competition' range we are addressing ambitious racing drivers who want to squeeze the last bit of performance out of their machine with a perfect suspension", is how Lars Würdemann, head of the Touratech Suspension division responsible for all developments in the suspension sector, describes the objective for the new line. In order to be able to guarantee balanced handling under racing conditions, the Competition products are always offered as perfectly matched kits for fork and suspension strut.
The development of the kit for the BMW S 1000 RR and the Suzuki GSX-R 1000 is already well advanced. For the BMW there is a mechanically adjustable version of the suspension kit as well as an electronic version for bikes equipped with DDA ex works. "The fact that the customer does not have to do any tinkering, but can continue to use all original plug connections, has been a matter of course for Touratech Suspension products since the revolutionary simple solution for the 'Plug & Travel' components for BMW's ESA and DDA models in the adventure segment", explains Würdemann the claim.
With the successful testing of the components on the Suzuki GSX-R 1000 at the Sachsenring, Touratech Suspension has taken an important step towards extending the range of Competition suspension kits to Japanese superbikes. "Our fork inserts, which work according to the 'closed cartridge' principle, provide a huge improvement in performance, especially for the Japanese supersport riders with their Big Piston Forks", explains Würdemann.
"The cartridges, which are simply exchanged for the original inner workings of the standard fork, offer a noticeably more precise response due to their much lower internal friction. In addition, the three parameters of spring preload and damping of rebound and compression (each on one side of the fork) can be adjusted over a much wider range than on the series production fork. Last but not least, the damping performance remains constant over a much longer period of time", the expert summarises the most important advantages briefly.
